Emeco
Emeco is a designer and manufacturer of aluminum chairs and stools. It all started in 1944 with the 1006 Navy chair, first produced for the U.S. Navy for use on board their ships and submarines, and the result of a collaboration between Emeco and Alcoa. Since then, the Navy chair has been in constant production and is still one of the company's best sellers. Today Emeco works with well known designers such as Philippe Starck, Frank Gehry, Ettore Sottsass and most recently Andrée Putman to create new designs such as the Kong collection, the superlight chair, the Nine-O collection, and the Morgan chair respectively. It is important to note the recycled content, and recyclability of Emeco chairs: Emeco uses 80% recycled aluminum content to make their chairs. Of the recycled aluminum, half is post consumer (soft drink cans) and half is postindustrial (manufacturing scrap). But in addition, and perhaps even of greater significance, is the aspect of lifetime costing. Emeco all-aluminum chairs have an estimated lifespan of 150 years or more, making them a sound investment in every way.
